2nd Bachillerato "A"; "Used in Evidence"

Read the second story of the book - "The Emperor"- and publish the questions below in your blog, before Thursday, 26th April.
QUESTIONS:
1. Mrs Murgatroyd was always complaining. What is the meaning of "complain"?
2. What did Mrs Murgatroyd complain about
a) in the taxi?
b) when she arrived at the hotel?
3. "So -Murgatroyd of the Midland and Higgins from Head Office," said Harry Foster.
4. Roger looked out of the window of the hotel room and he felt happy. What did he like about Mauitius?
5. Every day, the Murgatroyds did the same things. Did Edna stop complaining?
6. Roger Murgatroyd and JOhn Higgins went fishing in the Avant. There was a special seat at the back of the boat. What was the seat for?
7. There was a bucket of squid in the Avant. What were the squid for?
8. There was a harness fixed to the fishing-seat. What was tis harness for?
9. How long did Roger Murgatroyd fight the Emperor?
10. At last, Roger reeled in the huge Marlin. But he did not let Jean-Paul kill it. Why do you think that he did not want the fish to be killed?
11. Roger told Edna that he had talked with Monsieur Patient. What had they talked about?
12. What are Roger's plans for the future now?
13. When she heard Roger's plans, Edna was not happy. She wanted to complain but she could not. Why not?
14. The other hotel guests laughed and shouted. Why do you think that they did this?

1.- To complain means to feel well in any place, with anything or anybody.
The lady Murgatroyd always was complaining since she married with her husband.

2.- A) The lady Murgatroyd was complaining in the taxi because she was not feeling happy, because a companion of work of her husband they was accompanying in the trip to the islands Mauritius
b) in the hotel she was complaining because she didn´t like Harry Foster. He was drunk and they couldn´t stand when they came to the hotel.

3.- A) The gentleman Murgatroyd was explaining to Harry Foster where they were employed at the "Midland Bank"
b) Harry Foster laughed because he had asked them wherefrom they were and they did not understand him.

4.- He liked the landscape because when he was in London the landscape was sadder, was been cold and the streets were wetted, but there in Mauritius he could see the beach from the window.

5.- Not, she didn´t stop complaining during her vacations in the islands Mauritius.

6.- It was used to fish big, at the time fish they had to sit down there to capture him

7.- These squids were serving as fodder to go fishing

8.- This was fixed to the position of fishing but later they it put to the Gentleman Murgatroyd it to be tied to the waist and to the legs, this way the fish could not continue pulling the rope.

10.- Because it was the only species, so the gentleman Murgatroyd cut the rope and he still had it again at liberty.

11.- They were speaking in the hospital on the fishing of " the emperor "

12.- Roger wanted to able only to living in Mauritius and to devote himself to the fishing to earn money. He said to Edna who went away to living with her sister.

13.- Because her husband already had decided to remain there and was not going to change opinion.

14.- I don´t know it. I suppose that they were surprised by the decision of the gentleman Murgatroyd.

Hello Fernando, soy Ana Belén, he olvidado la contreseña de mi blog, por eso he publicado el ejercicio con los datos del blog de Pedro.

1) If you complain about something you aren´t satisfied with it.
2) A) She said that it was hot and dirty there.
B) She complained about the Austratian´s shirt and his can of beer.
3) A) He was asking them which country they came from.
B) Because he thoupht that they were the names of the country.
4) The golden beach, the blue sea and the green plalm trees. The hot sun the bright
Sea and at the white waves.
5) No, she didn´t stop complaining.
6) It was for sithing in it while somebody was realing in the fish.
7) To be put onto each hook. If something to the fishing.
8) To be fixed to the fishing seat.
9) Three hours and a half.
10) Because he had been fighting the fish and he falt pity for the fish.
11) The talked about business. Murgatroid wanted to guy Monsieur Patient´s boat and a small house on the beach and they were talking about going game-fishing with tourists.

13) Because Murgatroid started to walk towards the hotel bar and I thing that it was he first time that he said: to the hell with you.

The Emperor

1.- Meaning that she doesn,t like nothing, because Mrs Murgatroyd was always complaining.

2.- a) About nothing.
b) She was complaining because Harry Fosters is drunk and she did not speak.

3.- a) Harry Fosters was asking them wich country they came from, but he did not understand.
b) Because he did not understand, Harry Fosters was asking his nationality and he was answering where he was working.

4.- He liked about Mauritius that he could see the golden beach, the blue sea and the green plam trees, he looked at the not sun and at the bright sea and at the white waves, but in his toen he saw cold,grey wet streets.

5.- No she didn´t stop complain because Murgatroyds put on a pair of brightly – coloured shorts and she said “ You must wear a pair of trousers ” and because every day they sat on the beach, she read a novel and he did what his wife told him to do.

6.- Is a seat special for when someone catch a big fish, this person must fix the rod here and must sit in this seat while he reel in the fish.

7.- The squid was for, if a big fish ate one of they, the hook wolud cut into the fish´s mouth.

8.- The harness was for fixed to the fishing seat, there were two leather straps over his shoulders and two round his legs. Another strap was round his waist.

9.- During four hours aproximate.

10.- In my opinion he did not want the fish to be killed because he wanted to let go of him.

11.- They talked about that Roger will buy Monsieur Patient´s boat and a small house on the beach there, He will live there.

12.- His plans are: they will go game – fishing with the tourist who come there, to Mauritius.

13.- She could not complain because Roger was sure of every his palns and because he said that during twenty – five years she had made he unhappy.

14.- I think that they did this because Roger said “ to hell with the bank! And to hell with you Edna!

Nos manifestamos en contra de usted y los blog porque me he tenido que hacer otro blog solo y exclusivamente para enviarte las preguntas de The emperor, esto de los blogs es como un concurso de escocia amañado, no llego a comprenderlo. Pero bueno ya están las preguntas publicadas que es lo importante. Nos hubiese gustado ganar el concurso porque hubiese sido una gran motivación pero las circunstancias lo impidieron, con lo cual nos apañamos con el segundo puesto. xxx000

Hello Fernando I am Pedro:

1- To complain means to express discontent, unhappiness or disagreement with something or somebody.

2- a) She was complaining because, a companion of work of her husband was going with they in the trip to the islands Mauritius.
2-b) She was complained because it didn´t like Harry Foster and either the shirt.

3- Harry was asking about his origin and about his work.

4- To him it liked the landscape because it could see the beach, the trees, the sea…

5- No, she didn´t stop to complain.

6- Place destined to fishing big fish.

7- These squids were used like bait to fish.

8- they were fixed to the fishing seats to capture better the fish.

9- Almost four hours.

10- Because it was a protected species.

11- They spoke about the fishing of the emperor.

12- He planed to remain to live in the Isla Mauricio and to earn money of the fishing.

13- Because to roger don´t change of opinion although she was requested it and in addition he sent she to hell.

Fernando you cannot be imagined the one that I have rolled so that functions this, all the weekend, this of blogs is a little poop, but good in the end I was able to fix it. It gives Monday to it, but I have had to return to publish it Tuesday because it had not been left it absolutely well. Most of people it has had to do new blog, I in the end can use mine.

a)For that she was not comfortable with the company, friend of her husband.
b)For that she did not like harry foster and they were tipsy.
