USED IN EVIDENCE. STORY 1.

Dear students,
I would like you to read carefully the first story, called "Used in evidence", and answer the questions on page 56. Write your answers as a comment in this blog.

USED IN EVIDENCE

1-Dublin City Council was going to build a new shopping centre in Mayo Road. Why did the council asd the police for help?
--Because in one of the houses is an old man who didn´t want to leave his house. And the council called the police to solve it

2- When Bill Hanley arrived in Mayo Road, he saw two newspaper reporters. Was he happy to see them? Why/Why not?
--Not because in the newspaper said that the police throwing an old man of his house to do shopping centre

3- A man in the crowd, in Mayo Road, called out, 'Is there some treasure in there?' Why did he ask this question?
--In order that the workers had care in the chimney

4- How was the pathologist going to help Hanley's investigation?
--The pathologist will say to them when and because the body died

5- The pathologist phoned Hanley. He said that the body was a mummy. a)What did he mean? b)What had happened to the body?
--a)That the mummy was taking there many years and that was Egyptian
--b)The body was dry for heat of the chimney and She died strangled

6- What did Hanley learn from the British Army pay book which was found in Mr Larkin´s house?
--That Sr. Larkin was English, a soldier and later watchman.Sr. Larkin lived in londres and then it he changed to Mayo Road 38

7- Who was Major Dawkins? How did he help Hanley?
-- Dawkins was the commander in the British Embasy.darwins it informed harley about the life of Sr. Larkin.larkin went to the second world war in egipto. Larkin married with vicent Maria smith

8.-- Because it was when the president kennedy died in 1963

9- Why did Hanley decide to charge Mr Larkin with the murder of his wife?
--Because Hanley believed that Lrakin killed his wife

10- The day after the body was found, the pathologist gave Hanley some information. And the deeds of the house had given Hanley some information. What did all this information tell Hanley about the body and about Herbert Larkin?
-- Hanley made the Sr. Larkin free because he said that Larkin wasn´t an murderer. The body of the house was very old.

11-a) Hanley asked the sergeant, 'Who was the man who lived at 38 Mayo Road before the Larkins?'
-- If but hanley didn´t have his name. The man lived alone and his wife was dead
-b)What did Hanley think about the body when he had heard the sergeant´s reply?
-- That the body was the wife of the man who was living alone before Sr. Larkin.

12- Mr Larkin watched the bulldozer at the building site. Then he smiled and he walked back to his new home. Why do you think that Mr Larkin smiled?
--I don´t know. Sr Larkin always is laughing. Larkin knows something of the body.

1-Because there was an old man whom it did not love to leave its house.
2-No, because the journalists said that the police removed to the old man from their house to make the center commercial.
3-Because the people who were working stopped to work when finding something.
4-I have requested aid to find the causes of the death of the found woman died.
5-(a)It remained astonished, but it wanted to continue looking for the causes of the death of the woman: when it died, because and as it died.
(b)The body was found next to the chimney, between the wall and the chimney and because of this the body was dirty and humid, by the smoke and the heat that the chimney gave off.
6-In the book it found the date of birth and the time that Mr. Larkin's was in I exercise.
7-Dawkins was a military commandant of the British embassy.
The era a military man which I fight in World War II in Egypt and case with Mary Smith.
8-Because he was when president Kennedy passed away in 1963.
9- Because as Mr. Larkin did not want to go out his house all would think that it was because it hid the body of the woman.
10-The pathologist discovered that the woman had been assassinated and strangled, and that the body had been dead 30 years, and that she was in the house before Larkin began to live in her, thus Larkin was not the assassin.
11-Hanley thought that the body of the woman was the wife of the man who lived in the house before Larkin.
12-if it smiled he is because something knew, in my opinion that uncle hid something, and somehow something tapeworm that to see with that crime.
